ADAM PARKER

PASTOR; PEARL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

PEARL, MS

adamc.parker@gmail.com

"The value of the unborn child is patently obvious in terms of the Christian faith, but also natural law. One does not have to be an evangelical Christian or member of a church to know that the baby that grows inside of the mother is a dependent but separate being from his or her mother. A child cannot be her own mother, and so therefore is her own person from the moment she is conceived.

The only thing that keeps abortion legal in our own state is the Supreme Court ruling of Roe v. Wade. It’s not in the constitution, nor would the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” have been construed by the founders to include the freedom to take the life and liberty of one’s own child. In most states prior to Roe, there were laws on the books saying that abortion is a crime; that, of course, includes our own state, Mississippi. Being a safe city for the pre-born means recognizing that the life of the unborn is an absolute, even in the face of unjust laws.

Many states refused to obey the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, in part, because they knew it to be a wicked and unjust law that denied the humanity and personhood of enslaved people. Similarly, being a safe city for the pre-born child means that as citizens we’re just asking local officials to recognize that the personhood of the child is of higher value than unjust federal laws that reduce persons to things and regard people as though they were inanimate objects.

It is my joy that the city of Pearl is resolved to be the first of hopefully many municipalities in the state of Mississippi defending those little ones who have no voice for themselves."

LEAD PASTOR; THE EXCHANGE CHURCH

PEARL, MS

bryant@theexchange.cc

"As a pastor in Pearl, I am for the gospel and for our city, so I am proud to stand behind our city government when they make decisions that support gospel-centered values. Scripture is clear that God is the giver of life and that life starts in the womb. As followers of Jesus, we have a call to protect and guard life as a good gift from God. I am so thankful for the leadership of our city who is willing to make decisions based on the unchanging standard of God’s Word rather than on the constantly changing standards of the world. I hope the example set by the city of Pearl will be followed by many other cities in the days ahead."

"I am Dennis Ellingburg, pastor of Truitt Baptist Church and I support mayor Windham and the City Council in their decision to make Pearl a safe place for the unborn. I believe that a people are only as good as their protection and provision for the weakest of their citizens, and there are none weaker than babies in the womb. I urge the citizens of Pearl to join Mayor Windham in their support and defense of the unborn."

PASTOR; GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH

JACKSON, MS

GCCJACKSON.COM

"Fellow Citizens, like many of you Pearl has been my home for a long time and I can honestly say this, I have never been more proud of my city!  What a joy to be a part of a city that is making a stand for what is right.  Our city leaders have urged us in this resolution to “promote and defend the inalienable right to life and the inherit dignity of all innocent human beings at every stage of development.” I want to urge each and every one of you to do just that. Stand behind your leaders and stand up for the preborn child!

Let me take this opportunity to give each citizen of Pearl another encouragement and charge— love and follow the Lord Jesus Christ! There is none like Him, and He alone is worthy of praise! Jesus is God made flesh, who came to rescue us by dying on a cross for our sins, absorbing the wrath of God due us, and rising again to that eternal throne. May our pursuit of justice for the preborn child be wrapped up in a love for Christ and the proclamation of a glorious gospel!"

KEVIN WADE

PASTOR; CLEARY BAPTIST CHURCH

FLORENCE, MS

kwade1000@gmail.com

"I am Kevin Wade, pastor of Cleary Baptist Church in Florence, and I’m excited and thankful for mayor Windham and the City Council of Pearl in their stand to protect the lives of the unborn children who cannot protect themselves. It’s a stand I’m praying all the cities of Mississippi take in the near future. To the citizens of Pearl and all citizens of Mississippi: I call you to stand for these little ones who cannot stand for themselves. We who know Christ know life. The Lord Jesus Christ has given us the gospel of life. Sinners who were dead in their trespasses and sins have been made alive together with the Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can stand before a thrice Holy God apart from submission to Him as Lord. He alone provides us an escape from death under the full and eternal wrath of God due our sins. In a fallen world let us be alive to the Glory of God and the exaltation of Jesus Christ in whatever we do. Hope in Christ today and He will give you life!"

THOMAS WINN

PASTOR; JACKSON, MS

pastorwinn@bellsouth.net

"I am so thankful that the city of Pearl has proclaimed that they are a Safe City for the unborn. I have been involved in standing against abortion in Jackson, MS for the last 37 years. I have seen God close down three abortion mills, now there is only one left, but one too many. I pray that this proclamation, by the city of Pearl, would have a positive influence on the City of Jackson councilmen. All people should love the unborn and give them a safe environment to be born in. May each member of the city council of Jackson boldly stand with the councilmen of Pearl, and make the same proclamation. Thank you Pearl councilmen for leading the way in this righteous endeavor for the unborn. Pastor Thomas & Lawanda Winn, Jackson, MS."

"My name is Jose Freyre. I am the Evangelism and Missions Pastor at Meadow Grove Baptist Church. My family and I live at the Highland Mobile Home Park in Pearl. My family and I have lived in Pearl since 2003 and love our city.

We are for Safe Cities because they value and protect the lives of those who cannot protect themselves. Safe Cities are also a voice for those who do not have a voice yet. The most important reason why we are for Safe Cities is that they love what God loves.

We are thankful to the Lord for the leaders of Pearl who stood for what is right and defended the lives of the pre-born. We would like to say thank you leaders of the city of Pearl! We would also like to say that we will stand with you and behind you in this loving decision.

STEVEN MENA

PASTOR; PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH

CLINTON, MS

providencechurchms@gmail.com

"As the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Clinton, MS and a father of 10 precious children I am so thankful for the courageous stand that Mayor Windham and the Pearl City Council has taken for pre-born children. Psalm 139:13 says, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb." The Word of God teaches us that valuable because God made us in his image (Genesis 1:26-27) not because of our age (young or old) or location (in or out of the womb). I pray that this is the beginning of a movement to make the whole state of Mississippi a safe-haven for the pre-born. May the Lord cause us to do "justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8)."

DUSTIN COOK

PASTOR; GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH

MADISON, MS

cookdt@att.net

"As a native of Pearl, and a pastor at Grace Community Church, I am thankful for the passing of this resolution by mayor Windham and the Pearl city council. The city authorities have expressed their intent to “defend the inalienable right to life and the inherit dignity of all innocent human beings at every stage of development”. This resolution to protect the preborn is a righteous resolution because it aligns with the eternal truth of the Word of God – that every human being is created in the image of God – with inherent dignity and a right to life. I stand with the ongoing efforts of Safe City to see city ordinances passed that legally protect the preborn in Pearl, MS."

NIKKI FREYRE

PEARL, MS

"My name is Nikki Freyre, wife of José Freyre, mother to Zachary, Sierra, and Joseph Freyre. I am a long term resident of Pearl going on 17 years now. We have been very happy in Pearl and couldn’t be more proud now to be a resident here with the stance our city representatives have taken to protect the life of those weakest among us! I’m sooo happy that my children get to see men and women living out their faith and speaking up for what’s right not what’s easier or more comfortable. We as a family are so grateful to our leaders for taking this stance and seek to come along side you and be a voice for the preborn child. May the Lord grant us wisdom and give us grace to know how to answer our opponents in love that His magnificent name may be glorified and that those made in His image and created for His glory be protected. Proverbs 24:10-12 ESV [10] If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. [11] Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. [12] If you say, "Behold, we did not know this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work? Colossians 1:16 ESV [16] For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him."

LYDIA SULLIVAN

PEARL, MS

"I have been a resident of Pearl for 26 years. I have campaigned for mayors here, I have cheered for many soccer, football, and baseball championships here, rode my bike to snow biz in Patton Plaza a few times, and now I have the privilege to raise my own children here. I am overjoyed for the direction that our city is moving in caring for and protecting the life of the unborn. What a blessing it is to open our mouth and plead the cause of the poor and needy. As the Lord told Jeremiah, “before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you...” The unborn are known by our God. I’m thankful that I too was poor and needy and Christ pled my cause on the cross! Thank you Jake, John, David, Johnny, Casey, James, and Gavin for leading our city in this direction."

PAUL & BRENDA SULLIVAN

PEARL, MS

"My name is Paul (Peck) Sullivan. I am the youngest son/child of the late Vernal D. Sullivan and Billie E. Sullivan residents of Pearl since 1959. I am also the husband of my beautiful and loving wife Brenda K. Sullivan. When Brenda and I were wed we chose to make Pearl our home and to build our family here. In turn, our courageous son Ryan and our wonderful daughter in law Lydia chose to make Pearl their home and to raise their children, our grandchildren, here. Currently, the Sullivan family has 60 years of history right here in the City of Pearl. I have lived in Pearl my entire life. In fact, I was only 9 years of age when the Mississippi Supreme Court approved the incorporation of the City of Pearl and I have never been more proud to say that I am a citizen of Pearl, MS. The fact that my city leaders have elected to stand on the Word of God and defend the sanctity of life for every human being, especially those in the womb who cannot protect themselves, by exercising their constitutional right and declaring this resolution gives my heart great joy. Brenda and I would like to take this opportunity to let our city leaders know that we wholeheartedly support them in their decision to set forth this resolution to make the City of Pearl a “Safe City” for the pre-born. At the same time, we would like to encourage our friends and fellow Pearlites to get behind our city leaders and our local pastors in their effort to make Mississippi a “Safe State” for the pre-born and ultimately abolish abortion in our state."

SIERRA FREYRE

PEARL, MS

"I have never been more proud of my city than I am now! I am soooo thankful that my city calls sin-sin, murder-murder, not a “fetus” or “just tissue” but life that God made. I am so thankful that my city stands up for those who have no voice. Thank you for standing in the truth and speaking up for life!

Jeremiah 1:4-5 Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Psalm 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who feels his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

People are blessed to have children! They are not a burden! They are to be loved and cherished! We should be so grateful to God for them!

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Thank you for trusting the Lord!"

NATALIE RENFROE

PEARL, MS

"My family and I moved to Pearl just over a year ago. We are excited to be growing our family in this sweet community. As a wife, mother (with a baby on the way) and a follower of Jesus Christ, life in the womb is a very real and important issue to me. I believe what God says in the Bible is true- that He has knit together every life in the womb and that every life is valuable to Him and reflects His image (Psalm 139:13-16, Genesis 1:27, Exodus 21:22-25). A great quote from a recent interview with Les Riley and Ryan Sullivan stated “the federal government might not know what a person is, but the people of Pearl, Mississippi do.” What a privilege it is to live in a place where local governments and the values of individual citizens matter! We are thankful for our mayor and all of the aldermen who voted in favor of this resolution to protect the unborn. We will continue to support them in any way we can moving forward, as they defend the basic human rights of the most vulnerable people in our community. God bless you all!"

PAUL GARRETT

PEARL, MS

"As a resident of the city of Pearl for over 40 years, I am proud of Mayor Jake Windham and the board of aldermen who supported designating Pearl a Safe City to protect the unborn. It is time we all standup for the murder of innocent lives. It makes me proud to be a citizen of Pearl."

MEGAN BELL

PEARL, MS

"My husband was born and raised in Pearl, MS. I’ve had the pleasure of residing here for several years and worked as an educator in Pearl schools. As a mother of three, one of which we were given the option to abort due to medical circumstances in the womb, I’m incredibly thankful for our community leadership and their stance on life. My child wasn’t supposed to survive in the womb and wasn’t expected to have quality of life if she did live, yet she is thriving now at ten years old. Every child should have a chance at life, and I know God will continually bless Pearl as we seek to follow Him. Thank you to all involved in this life-saving endeavor!"

AMY HENLEY

PEARL, MS

"As a lifetime citizen of the great City of Pearl, I am so thankful that we are taking strides to save these sweet unborn babies! In January of 2017, we lost a sweet baby at 6 weeks gestation. To say that our hearts were completely broken is an understatement! Every little life matters and God puts all of us here for a reason. Going through that, my initial thought was to turn away from God feeling like I had been punished or betrayed. Through my husband’s great faith in God, he was able to show me how to turn TO God...for only He supplies all of our needs! In May of 2018, we welcomed our handsome, spunky little boy, Micah, into the world. I know many people who are struggling to have children. One of these precious miracles that women are choosing to abort could be the answer to someone’s fervent prayers! I’m so thankful for the city for making this a place that is standing AGAINST abortion and giving these babies a chance at life! I can’t think of a better place to raise my family and I can’t wait to see the plans that God has for Pearl!"

COREY HUGHES

PEARL, MS

"Hi my name is Corey Hughes, I am a father of three children and a servant of Jesus Christ. I am proud to call Pearl my hometown! I give praise to Jesus Christ for bold leadership and initiatives our community leaders have taken in the direction to make our city a safe haven for unborn children. God is the creator of all life and in his word he tells us how precious we are.

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalm 139:13-16"

"I am so thankful for the city of Pearl's leadership for taking a stand on what God has already established in His Word- that life is precious to Him. It gives me great honor, as a husband and father of five children, to endorse Safe City Pearl. I also endorse Safe City as a staff member of Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl. I serve the church as Head of School for Park Place Christian Academy. May God bless this resolution, may God bless Pearl, and may God bless this land as His people make a stand for the sanctity of life!"

PEARL, MS

"We’re the Gray family, at least a part of it. My wife is Skye and we have a beautiful little blessing named Rivers. The City of Pearl is our hometown and has been our extended family’s hometown for decades. We are believers in Christ and protecting the sanctity of life. Our family fully supports "Safe City Pearl" and prays to see it spread across our communities. It's encouraging to see the Board of Aldermen and Mayor taking a bold step to make this resolution. Lastly, we commend and may God bless Pastor Ryan Sullivan, the City of Pearl, and everyone involved in this movement. - Jeremiah 1:5"

CHRISTOPHER WOOD

PEARL, MS

"I often engage in the abortion debate. Every single argument they have for pro choice is a pathetic excuse to justify killing a developing human. They want to use names to lessen their actions. Fetus etc. It is a developing human at any stage. Pro choice is about your actions before conception not to justify your poor choices after. They often try and use the argument to leave my religion out of it. It’s not just about religion. It’s about morals. It’s about what is right and wrong. When a shooting happens people want change. The change is your moral standards. When you preach pro choice you start on a path that puts zero meaning on life. Then your kids grow up not knowing the value of life. People must stand up for all life is valuable. Change their morals to reflect that. You cannot expect evil to lose when you support an evil action. Change begins when you value life. Change begins when you don’t remain silent. Change begins when murder is not in your heart but love for all human life."

PEARL, MS

"I am so thankful to live in a community where not only citizens but our city government stand against killing of a human being. Every human was created by God and nobody has a right to take a life. The fetus is not just a piece of tissue it’s a living human in its early stages...Thanks to the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen for the stance y’all have taken."

As a mother of 4, a childbirth educator (formerly serving at the Center for Pregnancy Choices), and birth and postpartum doula, I understand the importance of valuing all life. There is a difference in being “pro-life” and being “pro-birth”, and I am grateful to know, support, and stand with city leadership, medical professionals, and citizens that share that understanding."

"Advocacy is one of the central tenets of the nursing profession. Honoring and valuing life is also core to the Christian faith. As a Registered Nurse I am obligated to advocate for the weakest and most vulnerable in any situation I find myself. As a Christian, I am compelled by a love for my neighbor and a love for God to rescue those who are being led away to death. I am thrilled to support this initiative and I look forward to seeing what other towns take up this cause."

BRETT JETER

INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN

"As a physician in the Jackson metro area, I am thankful for the leadership of Pearl, MS in making Pearl a safe city for pre born children. I pursued medicine as a career to help people - particularly the most vulnerable among us. We are all made in the image of God and are formed in the womb by Him (Psalm 139) for his glory - pre born children are no different. Jesus loved children. Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:5) and Paul (Galatians 1:15) were set apart before they were born for specific tasks in God’s kingdom. John the Baptist leaped in Elizabeth’s womb at the news of Jesus (Luke 1). Pre born children deserve protection, love and nurturing. They are gifts to be stewarded (Psalm 127). As a doctor, I spend my days helping people get well. My job will be easier as cities take their responsibility seriously to nurture and encourage life - young and old, sick or well. I applaud the city of Pearl as a MD and wish more cities will do the same."

PHYSICIAN

"I am excited to support the initiative of protecting the rights of the unborn in the city of Pearl. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I am compelled to love the Lord my God with all of my heart, soul, and strength as well as to love my neighbor as my self. Our unborn children are our helpless neighbors that cannot defend themselves. As physicians, we take an oath to first do no harm. Abortion in the absence of medical necessity dehumanizes our precious children. We need more people to advocate for the lives of unborn children!"

COLEMAN BOYD

PHYSICIAN

"The first rule of medicine has always been, 'First do no harm.' Another time tested phrase in the Hippocratic oath that physicians stood by for almost two thousand years is 'and in like manner, I will not give to a woman an abortive pessary.' Historically, the heart behind medicine is to serve and protect life. As a physician, this should be foundational in all that we do. As a Christian physician, my heart is grieved that society, as a whole, and the medical community, specifically, has abandoned the righteous standard of protecting life. Whether surgical abortions, abortion “clinic” dispersal of RU-486, pharmacy dispersed Plan B, or the plethora of mail-order abortion medications that are available, they all accomplish the same end. They bring death to the weakest, most defenseless human lives among us. With each life taken, our society degrades more and more into a self-serving people that has forgotten our Lord’s second commandment, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' With that said, I wholeheartedly endorse Safe City Pearl for stepping up and being a shining light in a dark world. While abortion clinics continue to shrink in overall number, abortion access and numbers are at an all time high. I applaud Mayor Windham and the Board of aldermen for having the courage to take a stand and establish justice for the pre-born in Pearl. This will not only protect the preborn from abortion 'clinics' but also from pharmacy dispersed Plan B and mail-order abortifacients. May God bless you abundantly as you honor the lives of those made in His image. I encourage every city in our state to rise up as those given authority by God to establish justice for the pre-born in their jurisdiction.

REGISTERED NURSE

"Being a nurse is often associated with compassion, kindness, and caring. We care. It’s part of who we are, and it is necessary to be a good nurse. We are taught to honor and preserve life. I am so proud to be part of a community who sees an unborn child as a life! A life worth fighting for and preserving! Psalms 127 says 'Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.' God gives us children as a blessing from Him! I hope other communities in Mississippi will follow in the footsteps of Pearl and will commit to preserving the life of our children!"

TYLER JETER

PHARMACIST

"When I became a pharmacist, I took the Oath of a Pharmacist, which includes this statement: “I will consider the welfare of humanity and relief of suffering my primary concerns.” My support for this initiative is consistent with that oath. As a pharmacist, I choose to not dispense Plan B, that I may fight for human life and speak for the unborn child, who I believe has been knitted together in the womb by God (Psalm 139:13). I am proud to support this initiative and hope that other cities will follow the example of Pearl, MS!"

ROBIN SMITH

REGISTERED NURSE

"I have been a nurse for 38 years and life is precious to me. I’m am glad to support this initiative and pray other cities will follow the example of Pearl, MS . I work everyday caring and loving others because we are created in the image and likeness of God our great Creator and we should have the greatest respect of life. Psalm 139 15-16 (TEV) When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother’s womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there-you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had been recorded in your book before any of them ever began. These verses remind me of God’s providence and his promise never to abandon us in times of difficulty and to lead us to the place where we can make the best use of the gifts he has given us. Thank you City of Pearl for being courageous and standing up for the truth!"

LANCE MAJORS

PHYSICIAN

"The Safe City movement is an important step toward the protection of life. As a Christian, husband, and physician, I support the efforts of Safe City in the protection of the unborn from medically unnecessary abortion. Life should be preserved because we are all created by God, with purpose, in his image. With this effort I charge it’s supporters as Christians and citizens alike to lift up, encourage, and support families that are spared from abortion. It is up to us to demonstrate the love that protecting life brings. This movement is not a liberal or conservative decision, it’s a protection of life decision that is one part of the big picture. In addition to protecting the unborn, we can protect lives from slavery, human trafficking, murder, and inhumane scientific discovery and should do so for the glory of God and the love of man."

"So sad that our nation has become accustomed to killing our own. I’m proud to live in a community that has chosen to defy the norm and give human life the ultimate value it deserves. Special thanks to all our city leaders who have taken this stand for us.

KIM NORWOOD

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

"As a medical provider I have had the opportunity to serve a large number of patients through the years. During this time of being a medical provider it has become continuously more apparent to me how beautiful and unique each individual is. No science or random happenstance could ever explain the complexities of what each human life represents. Each individual is truly a masterpiece who has been designed and created by God, having a soul that resides in their fleshly bodies. To think that it is permitted to keep a beautifully created soul from entering the world is a sad reality to me that I pray will be changed soon."

HUGH MUSE

Internal Medicine Physician

"I am thankful for the city of Pearl making a declaration that places high value on human life, specifically the life of the preborn. This valuing of human life aligns with what I see to be true as both a Christian and a physician. I hope more communities and governing authorities follow this example!"
